FUTURE CONFERENCES AND COURSES

Training Workshop on Food Security: 26 to 30 September, 2005, Hiroshima, Japan. The UNITAR Hiroshima Office for Asia and the Pacific (HOAP) Series on Sea and Human Security (2004-2006) aims at studying multiple dimensions of human security pertaining to seas, so as to support national policy making and institutional capacity building in the management and protection of seas and oceans. The 2005 workshop will focus on food security as a key component of Human Security. It will consider a broader definition of food security, both in terms of sustainable food production and supply, as well as safety issues of the food itself. This will include:
· Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) - an emerging threat to food security.

International Symposium on Cyanobacterial Harmful Algal Blooms (ISOCHAB): 6-10 September, 2005, Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA. Purpose: to provide the general public with up-to-date information about the increasing threat of cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms to human health and ecosystem sustainability; help meet the mandates of the Harmful Algal Bloom and Hypoxia Research and Control Act (HABHRCA); and evaluate the state of the science on the risk posed by cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms to human health and ecosystem sustainability.
