Nomination to achievement awards

ISSHA members are invited to submit nominations for the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Young Scientist Award. To make a donation for the awards please go to the donation button.

The Yasumoto Lifetime Achievement Award
This award is offered in recognition of a long and outstanding record of contribution to harmful algal research by an ISSHA member (see the membership list (requires login)). Previous recipients: Dr. F.J.R. (Max) Taylor (2000), Dr. Greta R. Hasle (2002), Dr. Theodore Smayda (2002), Dr. Donald M. Anderson (2006) and Dr. Karen Steidinger (2008).

The Young Scientist Achievement Award
This award is offered in recognition of outstanding achievement in any aspect of harmful algal research by scientists early in their career (i.e. within ten years of receiving their PhD). The award is intended for an exceptional or “break-through” contribution to an area of harmful algae research, rather than a cumulative record of achievement. The nominee should be an ISSHA member (see the membership list). Previous recipients: Dr. Chris Scholin (2002), Dr. Rosa I. Figueroa (2008).

Nomination procedure
Any ISSHA member in good standing may submit nominations for either achievement award, which should include a description of the nominee’s contribution (not more than one page). Please, make sure that you and your nominee have renewed membership for the period 2010-2011. Those of you who paid your membership at the beginning of 2008, or at the 13 ICHA Conference in Hong Kong in 2008, paid for the 2008 and 2009 fee.

Nominations should be sent by e- mail to Jennifer Martin (Jennifer.Martin@dfo-mpo.gc.ca), Chair of the Committee on Achievement Awards, to be received before May 15th 2010. Please write ‘ISSHA Achievement Awards 2010’ in the message subject. Nominations will be considered by the ISSHA Council, and eventual awards will bepresented at the XIV HAB Conference in Crete (Greece), 1-5 November 2010.
