Travel Awards to attend the 14th International Conference on Harmful Algae
ISSHA will have a limited amount of travel awards for students and postdoctoral investigators to attend the 14th International Conference on Harmful Algae, 1 - 5 November 2010, in Hersonissos, Crete, Greece.
Awards will be limited to a maximum of $1,000 US.
Successful applicants will need to demonstrate that other sources of funds are available to supplement their award. Among the criteria for selection will be the following:
· Membership in ISSHA (If you are not a member, please join before the applications are reviewed)
· Availability of "matching" funds
· First time award applicants will receive priority over those who have received travel support in the past.
· Commitment to an oral or a poster presentation
· Quality or unique nature of science to be presented
· Demonstrated financial need
To apply for funds, please send your application letter as one complete PDF file to Clarisse Odebrecht, Chair of Committee on Travel Awards (doclar@furg.br). The letter should contain the information listed below. Please, write “ISSHA Travel Awards 2010” in the message subject of your message. Applications not submitted this way may be rejected.
The application letter should include the following:
1. Name, address, telephone, FAX, e-mail;
2. Institutional affiliation and educational status;
3. Advisor;
4. Research interests;
5. Activity at HAB 2010: poster or oral presentation, first or secondary author;
6. Copy of the abstract;
7. Firm estimate of round trip airfare costs, housing, meals, and other travel needs, if justified;
8. Other sources of travel funds (i.e., how will the remainder of the trip be paid, and how firm is that financial commitment);
9. Statement justifying the request for assistance (i.e. why do you need the money, what you will do if you don't get the award);
10. Short letter from your advisor explaining why these supplemental funds are needed;
11. Other information that might help in the decision process.
The deadline for receipt of applications will be July 3, 2010 with decisions announced before the end of that month.
